JOIN US IN MAY

On May 3-5 the esteemed Nation editor and author Victor Navasky and I will host a weekend in the country at the beautiful Rowe Center, located in the Northern Massachusetts woods, devoted to the agonies and ecstasies of the political cartoon. We will be celebrating Victor’s new book, The Art of Controversy: Political Cartoons and Their Enduring Power, which is being published this month by Knopf.

The schedule (subject to change):

Friday evening, May 3:

Victor Navasky’s personal tour through the questions surrounding the recent and perpetual angst that cartoons alone have the power to provoke.

Saturday morning, May 4:

Steve Brodner’s presentation of Pow!: The Great Masters of Powerhouse Graphic Art. Where the mechanics of the most compelling imagery will be examined.

Saturday afternoon:

A panel with Navasky and Brodner and special guests, legendary satirical artists Rick Meyerowitz and Victor Juhasz own experiences as creators of  political art.

Saturday evening:

A showing of the new film: “Herblock: The Black and The White” directed by Michael Stevens.

Sunday morning, May 5:

Brodner will lead the vistors in a workshop in which images are created which will give a key into the process of  creating satirical art, with kibbitzing from Navasky.
