Sassy, the modern miracle manic mutt of Manhattan, has been my constant pal and gaia guide for 16 years! She joined our family after a stint as a stray along the Henry Hudson Parkway in New York. My daughter, Terry, was then a dog-obsessed 8 year-old. She is now 24, a painter living in Brooklyn with her own cat and puppy. And Sassy has been with me through thick, thin . . . and sometimes thinner than that. She has 5 major medical conditions, each somehow kept quiescent with correct medical attention and some batshitcrazy life force I cannot understand . . . but truly marvel at.
